Rolling Ball Tile Field A sphere rolls over a rippling field of tiles whose colour is a contour of its own height. Reactive Instanced Surface · 2026 How it is made An adaptive InstancedMesh forms up to a 25 × 25 extruded tile field standing on a travelling wave: one radial ripple crossed by two long swells. Simplex noise steers the ball, which rides that surface, raises the tiles near it, and leaves a swell behind that settles over a few seconds. Colour is banded off the same elevation that shapes the field, so each of the eight flat palette colours is a contour line rather than a pattern laid over the form. Tiles shrink toward the rim so the grid dissolves rather than ending.
